Across a wide swathe of the south, seasonal conditions have not looked as good since the 1980’s according to Elders, Hay, manager, Bill Haygarth.
“There has been prolific growth throughout to take us into spring and onto next autumn,” Mr Haygarth said.
“The Riverina is magnificent at the moment, we have had incredible rainfall since Anzac Day, and continue to get good falls to keep things ticking over.
“We are looking towards a wonderful spring, especially as we still have the chance of good spring rain.”
Corkhills Ag Service, Boorowa, director, Tom Corkhill said “it is certainly a wet winter not seen for a long time.”
Mr Corkhill said it as been difficult for crops and stock, with some of the later sown crops “really struggling” to cope with the wet conditions.
“Stock have also suffered a bit, with prime lamb producers indicating their lambs are around three weeks behind,” Mr Corkhill said. “But with rain predicted, farmers confidence is right up, with good stock and wool prices, and potential of big yields.”
