A SALE high of $14,000 was achieved twice at the annual Kilburnie Angus on-property sale at Walcha last Friday.
Sixty seven of 74 bulls offered in the helmsman auction sold for an average of $6746 and clearance of 90 per cent, with bulls going to commercial clients at Walcha, Guyra, Inverell, Merriwa, and as far west as Coonabarabran.
Murray Thunderbird K30 was the first bull to reach $14,000, selling to John and Sandra Zorgdrager, “Somerset”, Walcha.
The 25-month-old son of S.A.V Thunderbird 9061 and Murray Incentive H117 , who was used over maiden heifers in the Kilburnie herd, weighed 822 kilograms, had a scrotal circumference of 39 centimetres, and had estimated breeding values (EBVs) of +3.1 for birthweight, +64, +115 and +153 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight, and +87 for carcase weight.
The Zorgdragers also purchased Murray Federal L64, a 13-month-old embryo transfer son of Waitara Pio Federal F73 and Murray Objective G81, for $9500.
Ivil and John Reid, Guyra, bought Murray M Africa L62, a 13-month-old bull by Murray Africa J122 from Murray Ten X J97, for $14,000.
The 508kg bull measured 39cm in the scrotum and had EBVs of +3.9 for birthweight and +51, +95 and +124 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight.
The Reids were the volume buyers of the sale, also purchasing Murray Reserve L8 for $7500 and Murray Power Tool L16 for $6000
Murray Thunderbird K36, by S.A.V Thunderbird 9061 from Murray Incentive H117, was a flush brother to the $14,000 bull K30, and sold to Owen Mackaway, “Tia River”, Walcha, for $12,500.
The 25-month-old bull weighed 806kg, had a scrotal circumference of 40cm, and had EBVs of +3.2 for birthweight, +56, +96 and +133 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight and +73 for carcase weight.
Mr Mackaway also bought Murray Ten X L32 for $7500.
Grahame Benson, “Top Waterloo”, Walcha, bought 24-month-old Murray H130 K100 for $12,500.
The son of Murray Incentive H130 and Murray Berkley G32 weighed 750kg, had a scrotal circumference of 38cm, and had EBVs of +2.7 for birthweight and +51, +89 and +119 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight.
Mr Benson also puchased Murray H32 K114 for $9500.
Martin Oppenheimer, “Petali”, Walcha, bought Murray Federal L46, a 13-month-old bull by Waitata Pio Federal F73 from Murray Objective G81, for $12,000.
He weighed 489kg, measured 37cm in the scrotum, and had EBVs of +2.6 for birthweight, +52, +93 and +125 for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight, and +71 for carcase weight.
The sale was settled by Landmark Boultons Walcha.
