The 2016 Southern Limousin Breeders Production sale, held on Saturday September 10, will offer cattle producers access to the latest genetic improvements within the breed.
On offer from 11am at the Moss Vale sale yards will be exceptional bulls, females and genetic lots, giving buyers the opportunity to select from twenty-one quality vendors.
Ranging in ages of 18-months-old to two-years-old, thirty-nine black and apricot Limousin bulls will be up for auction, with three horned and the balance polled, as well as twenty-four females.
A genetic package of five embryos out of one of Summit Limousin Stud’s, Uranquinty, upcoming donors Summit Real Magic J3, will be on offer.
Landmark selling agent John Palmer, Moss Vale, said the sale offers producers’ the opportunity to obtain the latest Limousin genetics to improve their existing herds.
He said the bulls and females on offer this year are well bred, therefore producing a quality draft at this year’s sale.
“Producers’ can buy in confidence. If a bull is not up to scratch when it’s inspected by the sale committee and vets, then it doesn’t go to auction – it’s a simple as that,” he said.
“The sale is definitely one of the rare opportunities presented to breeders wanting to enter the vealer market and given the good return on older bulls at the moment, it will allow breeders to trade them in and buy younger bulls.
“Each year the sale is improving and it’s now reaching the point where it has become one of the State’s quality sales.”
The 2015 sale topped $12,500, with bulls averaging $4946, topping $9000, and cows topping $12,500 for a $5321 average, thus proving to be a competitive sale.
The top bull was sold by Michael and Mary Parsons, Kira Ora Limousins, Roslyn, for $9000 to Tim Reid, Melon Pastoral Company, Roslyn.
The two-year-old black bull, Kia Ora Jethro, weighed in at 1029 kgs and had a scrotal circumference of 40 centremetres.
The sale committee invites vendors, buyers and breed enthusiasts to dinner on Friday, September 9, at Tooses Wine Bar, Moss Vale.
The sale will be conducted by Landmark, Moss Vale.
