ENJOYING a double August shorn ram championship in the fine/medium and medium wool sections was Robert Harding of Glendonald stud, Nhill, Victoria, during the 2016 Rabobank National Merino Sheep Show and Sale.
His medium wool broad ribbon winner was the 20.6 micron six-tooth son of Glendonald 210 placed above reserve champion in class judging shown by the Dalla family’s Orrie Cowie stud, Warooka, South Australia.
Armidale based Alfoxton stud, operated by Chris Cronan and family, exhibited the August shorn champion ewe, a four-tooth which stood ahead of Towalba stud’s six-tooth ewe reserve.
However, Towalba stud of the Kopp family, Peak Hill, presented their 20.7 micron March shorn two-tooth to gain champion ram of that section while Deniliquin district’s Wanganella stud, exhibited their 18.3 micron ram which gained runner-up in the class and reserve champion ribbon.
March shorn ewe championship was presented to Kedleston Park stud, Calivil, Victoria, with reserve ribbon going to the McBurnie family’s Weealla stud, Balladoran.
STRONG WOOLS
A four-tooth ram shown by Richard Chalker and family’s Lach River stud, Darby Falls near Cowra, was awarded August shorn champion.
This 20 micron wool growing sire is by the 2012 Australian Supreme ram bought at Dubbo and was grand champion at Bathurst Royal Show and strong wool champion at the Queensland State Sheep Show, Longreach, and Hay sheep show.
Standing second in the same class to become reserve champion was a ram from Victoria Downs stud, Morven, Queensland.
Alfoxton stud, Armidale, exhibited champion August shorn ewe while Towalba stud, showed the reserve.
However it was from the March shorn section that Warren based Haddon Rig stud of the Falkiner family returned to broad ribbon circles with their 19.5 micron 119 kilogram champion ram which went on to be awarded reserve junior champion ram of the show.
Wanganella stud showed reserve ram while in the ewe section a lone milk-tooth entry from Weealla stud was awarded champion.
