A RECORD high of $57,000 was achieved at the 40th annual Northern Santa Gertrudis Breeders Group sale at the Tamworth Regional Livestock Exchange on Tuesday.
Twenty three of 32 bulls offered by 12 studs sold for an average of $7608 and a clearance of 72 per cent, with bulls going to stud and commercial producers in NSW, Queensland and South Australia.
In the female sale, three of four offered sold, topping at $3000 for Macaire G33.
The top bull, offered by Victorian vendors Robert and Julie Vise, Kuloomba Santa Gertrudis stud, Rochester, sold to David and Sonya Greenup, Rosevale Santas, Jandowae, Queensland.
Kuloomba Peter 444, a 23-month-old son of Kuloomba Bro 408 and Kuloomba 208, weighed 1035 kilograms, measured 41.5 centimetres in the scrotum, had rump and rib fat of 19 millimetres and 12mm, an eye muscle area (EMA) of 135 square centimetres and intramuscular fat (IMF) of 5.2pc.
Mr Greenup is a repeat client of the Tamworth sale but a first-time Kuloomba buyer. Peter will be used in the stud herd of 700 cows.
“He’s the complete package and has totally different bloodlines to what we’ve got,” Mr Greenup said.
South Australian stud producers Richard and Deirdre Fogden, Nangaringa Santas, Loxton, bought Denngal Kartel K3, offered by Dennis and Gail Moxey, Denngal Santas, Forbes, for $17,000.
The 1050kg, 31-month-old bull, by Gyranda E340 from Denngal Flora G27, had a scrotal circumference of 42.5cm, measured 15mm and 10mm on the rump and rib, had a 139cm2 EMA and IMF of 5.9pc.
Hallcraig Killkenny K30, offered by Jock Cunningham, Hallcraig Santas, Deepwater, sold for $9000 to Mal and Jen Hicks, Casino and Merriment Rural Investments, “Warili”, Forbes, bought Denngal Kurrajong for $8000.
The Hicks family and Breck and Margot Johnston, “GlenBarra”, Manilla, were the volume buyers, each purchasing three bulls for averages of $5666 and $4000 respectively.
The annual charity lot, 13-month-old heifer Agvac Kiara, by Agvac Gibralta 344 from Agvac Y1, sold for $6500, with all proceeds going to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

The sale was conducted by Burke and Smyth Tamworth and Ray White Rural Guyra and Armidale, with Blake O’Reilly taking the bids.
