FREELANCE journalist, writer and photographer Andrea Crothers has won overall first place prize in Cotton Australia’s Faces of Australian Cotton photography competition.
Cotton Australia chief executive officer Adam Kay congratulated Andrea and all of the prize recipients on their outstanding entries, and thanked all of the entrants for participating in the competition.
“The image features Andrea’s father Douglas and portrays a great story of her family’s farming enterprise at Booligar, Dirranbandi – in operation since 1864 – where Douglas and his wife Lorraine have been growing cotton for two decades,” Mr Kay said.
Andrea’s winning entry was selected by professional rural Australian photographer, Joshua Smith (Joshua J Smith Photography), from more than 600 entries. It characterises the very best of the modern Australian cotton industry and demonstrates impressive technical skill.
Ms Crothers said she was surprised to see her photograph chosen from a phenomenal pool of entries.
“The photo captures the character of my father Douglas working on the land in an industry that he is deeply passionate about,” Ms Crothers said.
“I would like to thank the judge Joshua Smith and Cotton Australia for the terrific prize – I am really looking forward to using my digiDIRECT vouchers.”
Ms Crothers’ overall winning picture won the Aussie cotton growers and industry category. Overall runner-up in the competition was Gayle Mills, Gunnedah, NSW, who won the Aussie cotton families category.
The innovation in cotton category was won by Heike Watson, Boggabri NSW.
The people’s choice award went to Eve Jeffery, The Channon, NSW.
