Local and return buyer support drove the Myanga on-property bull sale to a top of $9000 twice at Chatsbury on Monday.
Of the 41 bulls offered, 34 sold to a healthy average of $5800 for Stephen and Sally Dunne, “Moondance”, Chatsbury.
It was the Dunne’s first on-property sale after buying the Myanga’s 300-head registered female herd as an entirety in late 2014.

In a fitting show of support to quality breeding, Infinity was knocked down to previous Myanga owners, Roger and Glenda McIntosh, “Glenayr”, Laggan.
The 24 month-old 784 kilogram bull had a scrotal circumference of 43 centimetres and estimated breeding figures (EBVs) of +5.7 birthweight, 200 -day weight of +45, 400-day weight of +86 and 600-day weight of +114.
Mr McIntosh, who now runs a commercial operation of 350 Angus breeding cows at his Laggan property, said he bought Infinity because of the cow he was out of, saying she is an exceptional breeder.
The McIntosh’s took home another two bulls for $5000 and $4000 respectively, both by Raff Dazzler D353 and both being March 2015-drops.
The second $9000 bull, Myanga Kodiak K182, was purchased by Joe Mooney on behalf of long-standing client, Wayne Gooley, “McAlister Park, Laggan.
The 826kg two-year-old with a scrotal measurement of 40cm, was by Myanga Kodiak H106 and out of Myanga Wilcoola F109.
He possessed EBVs of +5.8 birthweight, +50 200-day weight, +91-400-day weight and +124 600-day weight.
Mr Mooney said he was a very soft, easy doing bull with good bone and plenty of length and lift.
“I really like the Myanga cattle for their temperament, but mainly their do-ability,” Mr Mooney said. “That is the thing that really appeals to me, especially in this cold climate.”
At McAlister Park they run 120 Myanga-blood cows and sell to the weaner calf market, turning the cattle off at around the 300kg mark.
Five bulls were sold for the second highest price of $8000, with two of those to volume buyers, the Stephenson family of “Roslyn”, Roslyn. Bidder, Adam Stephen, secured six bulls in total paying an average of $6500.
Running 1400 Angus cows, the Stephenson family target their steers to the feedlot market at around the 400kg to 500kg weight.
Doug Werrin, Bannister, took away two bulls topping at $8000 and securing the second for $4500.
Leigh Macarthur Onslow, Goulburn, secured four bulls to a top of $6000 twice and average $5500.
Other purchasers of $8000 bulls were David Culley, Wheeo and Richard Piper through Landmark Goulburn.
Three stud heifers from the five offered sold to a top of $4000 and $3333 average while nine commercial heifers sold in one lot for $1700 per head.
Purchasers of the nine commercial heifers were Steve and Kylie Ward, Crookwell, who also purchased a two-year-old bull for $6000.Having first become a client of Myanga over eight years ago.
Stud principal Stephen Dunne, said he was very pleased with the strong local support with all bulls going to local enterprises.
“The fact that previous stud principals, Roger and Glenda McIntosh, purchased three bulls shows great support for the direction and quality of our breeding program,” Mr Dunne said.
“Our focus is on structure, fertility, docility and being grass fed and finished seems to hit the mark.”
The sale was conducted by Landmark Goulburn with Andrew Wishart taking the bids.
