The annual spring sale of first-cross Border Leicester Merino ewes saw 6000 yarded to sell to top price of $292.
Riverina Livestock Agents, Wagga Wagga, agent, Angus McHattan, said the yarding reflected the excellent season experienced across the northern Riverina, with well-bred ewes presented in excellent condition.
“The market overall was quite strong, and particularly on the heavier end of the young ewes,” Mr McHattan said.
The top price at $292, was paid for the tops of the draft of 300 offered by the Golder family, Temora, and purchased on behalf of prime lamb producers in the Barellan district.
The May/June 2015 drop ewes were June shorn, and sired by Kegra Super Borders out of Goolgumbla-blood Merino ewes.
Another feature sale were the 160 April/May 2015 drop ewes, by Cadell Border Leicester rams out of North Ashrose-blood Merino ewes, offered by Simon Harris, Temora, and sold to the Mirrool district.
The Denyer Partnership, Ariah Park, sold the tops of their 200 May/June 2015 drop ewes August shorn, out of western bred ewes by Cadell BL rams for $218, and GT and WM Walker, Ariah Park sold 200 May/June 2015, July shorn ewes by Cadell BL rams for $210.
RN and RJ Harper, Ariah Park, sold 200 July/August 2015 drop, August shorn ewes by Cadell BL rams from stud Merino ewes for $243, with their second draft of 200 ewes, same description made $232.
The sale was conducted by Wagga Wagga agents, Riverina Livestock Agents, Elders and Landmark.
