Strong local support pushed rising two-year-old bulls to a top- price of $7500 at the annual Goulburn All Breeds bull sale on Saturday.
Eighteen of the 24 bulls offered sold to an average of $3900, resulting in a seventy-five per cent clearance.
The lift in the average from the previous year’s sale was over $400.
The top-price Angus bull was offered by JTR Angus, Goulburn and purchased on behalf of Melon Pastoral Company, Roslyn, by Charlie Croker, Landmark, Goulburn.
Rising two-year-old Poll Herefords bulls reached $5000 twice.
Ross and Jenny Robertson, Goulburn, sold a Poll Hereford bull to Melon Pastoral Company, Roslyn for $5000 and John and Renae Keith, Goulburn, sold a $5000 Poll Hereford bull to the Collins family at Crookwell.
Bill Fife, Goulburn, purchased the top-price Limousin bull for $3750, sold by vendors John and Sue Sheehy, Limoges Limousins, Tarago. W.J. McKell and Son, Goulburn, purchased two Poll Hereford bulls for an average of $4000.
Daniel Croker, Landmark Goulburn, said compared to last year’s sale, there was definitely more demand.
“Each year we seem to be getting bigger and bigger clearances,” Mr Croker said.
“The result was on parr with what is going on in the cattle market at the moment.
“But in building numbers it is always going to take a bit of time before we get the prices up there.”
The sale was conducted by Landmark Goulburn with Charlie Croker controlling the bids.
