SAVING Wee Waa is progressing with its fight against the Murray Darling Basin Review in regards to proposed water recovery from their district.
To show the Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) how much support the town has against further water recovery, Saving Wee Waa have decided to launch a petition, set to be released on Thursday.
In the current Basin review, it has been proposed that 23,000 megalitres of water would be recovered from the district, which would come from local farms.
It would be the third time governments have taken water from the Wee Waa community and locals are concerned what it could do to their currently booming town.
Since first reported, the Saving Wee Waa group have released a nine minute video explaining how detrimental losing more water could be for the rural community.
The video was shared during a “main street event”, where 450 guests gathered to enjoy the short film, late night shopping and food.
The nine minute video, featuring local farmers, business owners, and Wee Waa residents was shared on the Saving Wee Waa Facebook page after it aired at the main street event.
Since then, it has been viewed over 60,000 times, has been “liked’ over one thousand times and has been shared by 1700 people.
With so much support for the cause, Saving Wee Waa members are expecting a large amount of signatures. The petition can be signed on the Saving Wee Waa website and Facebook page.
