Join Australian Rural Woman of the Year Sophie Hansen live on the Mill House Kitchen Stage twice daily during the Australian National Field Days.
Manildra Group and MSM Milling are proud to present the Mill House Kitchen Stage with Sophie Hansen – the 2016 Australian and NSW Rural Woman of the Year.
The Mill House Kitchen blog tells the story of the Manildra Group and showcases the products made by the group and MSM Milling in a range of beautiful recipes and stories from the farms and kitchens that are the backbone of what they do.
Sophie will be taking the Mill House Kitchen Stage twice daily during the Australian National Field Days to cook up a storm using Auzure Canola Oil, The Healthy Baker Flour and Sunshine Sugar.
Join Sophie as she cooks donuts with warm chilli chocolate and salted caramel dipping sauces, melt and mix ginger and molasses cake with warm orange compote as well as a delicious picnic spread, including rhubarb and hazelnut blondies and cauliflower slice.
She is a freelance food writer who has a celebrated blog, Local is Lovely.
Sophie is also a home cook who lives on a deer farm west of Orange with her husband and two young children.
They sell their Mandagery Creek Venison at markets and butcher shops around the country, and supply some restaurants.
Before moving to Orange 10 years ago, Sophie worked in food and lifestyle magazines as a features editor and editor, and lived for two years in north-west Italy, working for the Slow Food movement’s editorial house.
“One of the main things I took away from this time with Slow Food was that a good way to change the way people source, share and consume their food (for the better) is by making it a pleasurable and user-friendly exercise,” she said.
Sophie said she started the Local is Lovely blog three years ago “to celebrate nice farmers like us and share recipes, and stories not only from our own farm, but others plus kitchens and markets across the country”.
“My recipes are simple, seasonal and fresh, and I hope, will inspire more people to source their food as locally as possible; because it’s lovely!”
Sophie also runs My Open Kitchen, an online e-course to help primary producers share their stories online.
- Join Sophie on Thursday at 12.15pm and 2.30pm; Friday at 10.30am and 2.30pm; and Saturday at 10.30am and 12.30pm.
