THE Cotton Gap program launched by Cotton Australia provides a unique opportunity to connect school-leavers with cotton enterprises seeking operational staff.
The program has received strong interest from cotton growers to date, and Cotton Australia is calling for interested students and school-leavers to submit an expression of interest.

Cotton Australia chief executive officer Adam Kay said Cotton Gap is well-suited to students seeking first-hand working experience in the cotton industry.
“Cotton Gap suits two groups of students – those only seeking 12 months employment in a unique rural and regional location, and those seeking practical experience relevant to their future studies and career in agriculture,” Mr Kay said.
“The program represents a great opportunity to work in one Australia’s most innovative and forward-thinking agricultural industries.
“Participants will be supported by the cotton industry to make sure they are job-ready to set them up for future work opportunities.
“Those participants seeking a long-term career in agriculture will benefit by creating links for ongoing holiday employment for when they start university or college studies.”
Goondiwindi cotton grower Glen Smith said the Cotton Gap program gave growers an opportunity to introduce new people to the industry and access keen young people to meet labour requirements.
“The program is especially helpful given the recent turn around in the optimistic season forecast,” Mr Smith said.
Nambour State High School agriculture teacher Phil Rienecker said Cotton Gap was an exciting chance for students to be placed in an industry that wanted to develop young people with potential.
“It’s a great opportunity for young people,” Mr Rienecker said.
