Eclectica, a recurring art exhibition hosted by the exclusive Mittagong girls’ school, Frensham, is only held once every five years to ensure a high calibre of artists and that the work exhibited is always fresh.
This is one of those years. Eclectica is on November 5 and 6, and runs in tandem with the Southern Highlands Art Studio Trail.
This year the school features Paula Jenkins from Walcha, Lucy Watts of Dunedoo, Jim Hamilton from Muttama, Al Phemister of Yass and Harriet Goodall from Robertson. Also, Eclectica is delighted to include three of 2016’s Archibald Prize finalists – one of whom is also one of a very select group who have appeared in the Archibald, Sulman and Wynne in the same year – Lucy Culliton from Bibbenluke.
The two other Archibald finalists are Zoe Young, who painted Aboriginal model Sam Harris, and Clara Adolphs, for her work of musician and actor Terry Serio.
They are both exhibiting two paintings.
Also featured is former Canberra student Molly Kamenz. Her botanical images are exquisite and much in demand.
And, the school is delighted to feature emerging and very much sought after artists Tyrone Layne and Paul Ryan, as well as established artists Glen Preece, Marina Strocchi and Wayne Eager. There is also a fine selection of Aboriginal works from the Northern Territory, featuring some rather unusual works by respected indigenous artists.
Sculptors Luke Storrier and David Ball will be exhibiting some outstanding and unique pieces, and artisan Dimity Kidston will display some of her intricate tapestry work, whilst furniture makers Joe Vinks and Torquil Fitch will show some quirky and beautiful handcrafted items.
Eclectica is on Saturday and Sunday, 5 & 6 November and runs in tandem with the Southern Highlands Art Studio Trail. We aim to reach a broad spectrum of art lovers, with something for every taste and budget.
