Young cattle price tumble
YOUNG cattle prices have slipped more than 20 cents a kilogram (carcase weight) in the past week resulting in the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) falling below 700c/kg.
On Tuesday night the EYCI settled on 688c/kg. Higher yardings across the board last week and generally again this week fueled the cheaper prices.
This was most evident at NSW and Queensland sales last week.
But even with the significant price dip the market was still about 170c/kg higher than at the some time last year.
