Spring has well and truly hit the Riverina and with the change in weather thoughts are turned to the annual Hay Races - one of the biggest events on the social calendar.
Without doubt the Fashions on the Field (FOTF) competition is a major attraction to the day and this year the FOTF Committee will be offering an incredible $12,500 in cash and prizes.
Co-convener of the FOTF Committee, Lisa Headon, noted the generosity of our sponsors has been overwhelming.
“We are thrilled to be offering such an incredible amount of cash and prizes for our winners,” Mrs Headon said.
“ We know that many of our entrants invest a lot of time and money into their outfits and we are excited to be able to reward their efforts with the amazing prizes this year.
“The prize for Best Dressed Lady alone has prizes to the value of $4,400, including a $3000 travel voucher. This is defiantly the biggest year we have had and we are expecting the prize money to attract some incredible outfits.”
So what is like to win the ultimate Fashions on the Field prize at the Hay Races?
“The whole experience was incredibly positive for me. My family and I had a challenging year and to win the prize was so thrilling for myself and a moment of joy for my family,” 2015 Best Dressed Lady winner Sarah Groat, Rankins Springs, said.
“I was able to use my travel voucher prize to holiday in the Whitsundays, which was a wonderful break after a pretty tough year,” she added.
“ Last year I watched all the Spring Racing trends and really wanted an outfit with a ‘Wow’ factor. I found my dress and then worked with a local milliner to create my winning outfit – it was a such an amazing experience.
“I am sure with such generous prize money on offer, this year will be very competitive at the Hay Races. My advice for anyone putting a winning outfit together is to watch the trends (leather headwear is big this year), keep it feminine and make sure your outfit reflects your own personal style - you do not want to look like someone else is dressing you.”
Hay Fashion on The Field has grown to be a major attraction at the annual race day and this year will be no different.
“My best tip for anyone wanting to enter the FOTF competition this year is to make sure you know the times that each category will be held. We hate to see anyone miss out! “ Mrs Headon added.
“A comprehensive FOTF guide will be published in the Riverina Grazier on Tuesday 1 November and I encourage everyone to grab a copy to get all the information they need for the day.”
The Hay Races will be held on Saturday 19 November 2016. Gates open at 11.00am, the first FOTF category to be judged will be Best Millinery which will be judged after the first races at 2.00pm. Entrants need to be at the FOTF marquee prior to the running of race 1.
