A feature of the regular store cattle sale at Wodonga last Thursday where over 3000 mixed quality cattle were penned, was the offering of the complete dispersal of the Angus herd on account EC Seidel and Co, “Buckingbong”, Narrandera, following the sale of the family property.
The sale was quoted by Paull and Scollard, Wodonga, director Steve Paull as continuing to be “strong, with a slight easing” across heavier types..
“There was a good selection of breeding females, and perhaps the cow and calve prices could have been stronger than the overall market,” Mr Paull said.
“The heavy cattle were a bit easier, possibly reflecting the fat market, but the little cattle sold quite strongly but again with a slight easing, but overall it was still a strong market.”
The complete dispersal of 765 cattle on account the Seidel family, “Buckingbong”, Narrandera, saw leading lines of Angus females, carrying Adrossan, Dunoon and Bongongo genetics sell to $3060 for 30 20-22 month heifers PTIC to Pathfinder Dockland bulls and weighing 527kg.
Hunter Valley cattle producers, John and Pam Farragher, Seaham via Maitland, selected the second line of the 20-22 month PTIC heifers, and paid $2700 for 15 females weighing 521kg.
The Farragher’s breed stud and commercial Charolais, with commercial Angus females and plan to rejoin their purchase to Charolais bulls for their second calf.
Mr Farragher said this was their first foray south in search of quality cattle.
“We needed new blood in our herd, and we thought these were a very even line of heifers of excellent bloodlines and breeding,” he said.
“The stock were well presented in great condition.”
The Seidel family also sold 48 Angus heifers, 30 months, and PTIC for $2620, along with 13 PTIC three year old cows for $2740.
The top pen of the “Buckingbong” offering of 25 Angus steers, eight to nine months and weighing 308kg sold for $1350, while the top 55 of their eight to nine month heifers weighing 286kg sold for $1210.
