Return clientele promoted Greenland Merinos and Poll Merinos to reach highs of $2800 at annual on property ram sale last week. The Alcock family sold 59 of the 60 rams offered for an average price of $1266 with the top-price of $2800.
Forty-four of the 45 Merino rams sold to average $1214 and the 15 Poll rams sold for an average of $1420.
Long-term clients G.M. and A.J. Burston, Benambra, Victoria, paid the top money for a 17.3-micron son of Greenland Simo with a Standard Deviation (SD) of 3.6, and Coefficient of Variation (CV) of 17.3 per cent.
The Burston family also added a further three rams to average $1650 on the four. Allison Burston said they continue to use Greenland sires for their bright wool, and staple length, as well as their carcase weights.
Another Greenland Simo son sold to local client M.J. and C.A. Caldwell, “Barkers Lake”, Bungarby, for $2500 measuring 18.2-micron with 3.4 SD and 17.9pc CV.
Three poll rams reached a high of $2200, with two selling to Invaloch Pastoral, Strathdownie, Vic, and the third to Olinda Pastoral Company, Rylstone.
Invaloch Pastoral’s rams measured 18.4 and 17.3-micron respectively and were apart of a draft of five poll rams secured for an $1920 average while Olinda Pastoral’s ram measured 18.6-micron and was one of two poll rams purchased with a second added for $1200.
Wallendbeen producers Bryne Farm Co., “Alawah”, led the volume buyers securing a total of seven rams reaching highs of $1600 to average $1086.
Greenland principal John Alcock was happy with the results and pleased with the support from all return clients.
“The sale draft exhibited structural soundness and balance, spring of rib, and were big and wooly which is what we are setting out to breed,” Mr Alcock said “We have a focus on carcase while maintaining wool cut and quality.”
The auction was conducted by Schute Bell Badgery Lumby with Anthony Atkins doing the duties.
