Adina Merino and Poll Merino’s decision to move to an on-property sale at Cooma for the Barron family's 16th annual ram sale proved a successful one.
Continued support from commercial clientele saw 33 of the 40 rams offered sell for an average price of $1323 reaching a top of $2750 on three occasions.
Sally Flat Partnership, Peak View, purchased a 18.6- micron Adina 11-11 son with 3.2 standard deviation (SD) and 17.2 per cent coefficient of variation (CV) and a 99.9pc comfort factor (CF) for the equal top money of $2750.
They also added a further three rams as they worked towards a $1838 average on the four.
Dungaree Pastoral, “Dungaree”, Ando, also secured an Adina 11-11 son for $2750 with a fibre diameter of 17.2-micron, 2.3 SD, 13.4pc CV and 99.9pc CF.
While also paying the top money Middleview Partnership, “Brickkiln”, Dalgety, took home a 17.8 -micron son of One Oak 54 with a 3.0 SD, 16.9pc CV and 99.9pc CF for $2750.
Leading the volume buyers Greg and Peter Luton, “Talbaray”, Shannons Flat, put together a draft of seven rams for an average of $914 and putting a solid floor in the market as has become custom at Adina.
The Luton’s join 1600 Merino ewes and have been on Adina blood for eight years.
Peter Luton said they have a similar philosophy and country to the Barron’s and the Adina sheep are working for them.
“We are trying to fill bales without getting too broad,” Mr Luton said.
Other volume buyers included M.A. and M.A. Platts, Bombala, who secured four rams for a $1150 average and topping at $1600.
Woodend Pastoral Company, Cooma, purchased three rams paying to $2400 and averaging $1800.
Adina principal James Barron was pleased with the strong attendance and appreciative of the effort made to travel out to the first Adina on-property ram sale.
“Rams were good buying with quality rams brought well,” Mr Barron said
“We were pleased with how rams presented for sale given the seasonal conditions.
“Our biggest cheque is still our wool cheque, and as a result we are breeding sheep to cut wool.”
The sale was conducted by Elders and Landmark in conjunction with Rick Power, Landmark studstock, Grenfell, who took care of the bids on the rostrum.
