THE National Rural Women’s Coalition (NRWC) has big plans for the upcoming year, after it achieved great success from the projects put in place by the organisation in 2016.
NRWC president Alwyn Friedersdorff said the past year had been a great success and she was excited to see what the future had in store.
The NRWC provides a voice for rural, regional and remote women as well as many platforms to increase the capacity and capabilities of women in these areas.
The launch of their picture book “Brave Danny”, which addresses the issue of domestic violence and tells the story of a young child living in a domestic-violence situation, was held on White Ribbon Day.
It was written by Robin Adolphs and illustrated by Nicky Johnson.
The organisation also ran two e-Leader programs, each one a nine-week program where women from across Australia logged into a virtual class room.
One taught women in rural communities about social media, and using its power, the other was focused on sustainability and primary production.
Three resilience forums were also held – in Victoria, South Australia and Queensland.
The forums provided opportunity for rural women to network, share and develop strategies to take home to build resilience within themselves, their families and their communities.
The year ahead is edging to be another exciting one one for the NRWC, with the women from the muster connecting again in February to discuss ideas and plans for the future.
“Watch this space heading into the new year,” Mrs Friedersdorff said.
