Chris and Karyn Jarrad and son Adrian, Forest View, Sandford, will offer 100 weaner steers and 30 heifers.
The EU-accredited Angus calves reflect the family’s move to use more Pathfinder genetics in the herd.
“They’re big bulls and the buyers at the weaner sales like Pathfinder blood calves,” Chris said.
“The calves have good length, which is where you get the weights,” Karyn said.
They Jarrads plan to yard wean the calves this week for four or five days, which will be three weeks before the sale.
They will then put the calves onto the hay paddocks that have green and lush regrowth.
Their top pen of 80 EU-accredited steers last year weighed 378kg and made 332c/kg lwt or $1258/head.
“I reckon they’re on par with last year,” Karyn said.
“And maybe as with our lambs they’ll be heavier – our crossbred weighed one kilogram heavier than last year.”
