The second annual Coronga Walgett ram sale saw 36 White Suffolk rams sell to a buying gallery from six districts.
Thirty-six of the 38 rams offered sold to a top of $1025 and averaged $851. In the breakdown, 16 spring 2015-drop rams sold to the sale high and averaged $895 while 20 autumn 2016-drop rams topped at $900 three times and averaged $780.
Tag number 446 topped the sale at $1025, selling to Hermidale prime lamb producers, Ron and Lorraine Hawley.
The 2015-drop ram boasted a birthweight of 0.35, a PEMD of 2.8, a carcass plus measurement of 194.4 and a 20:20 Index of 112.7.
Mrs Hawley and her husband Ron selected the ram on his length and size knowing that from previous purchases the Coronga rams perform well with good fertility that results in high lambing percentages.
The Hawley family join around 800 commercial White Suffolk ewes annually and complimented the Congara rams on their evenness.
In total Mr and Mrs Hawley purchased six rams to average $858.
Volume buyer Bruce Marshall, "Wharparilla", Walgett, returned for his second year to secure nine rams to average $847.
Included in his draft was the top-price of the autumn 2016-drop lots 28 and 34 selling for $900.
Mr Marshall, guided by selling agent Chris Clemson, selected his draft after a positive outcome from his 2016 purchases.
"They breed good sizes, I returned 100 per cent drop at lambing and they don't wander like other breeds," Mr Marshall said.
Campbell Murray, "Lone Pine", Lightning Ridge, attended the sale for the second year to load up with eight rams to average $1012.
Mr Murray and his family have been purchasing from Coronga for eight years and join 6000 Merino ewes annually.
"The Coronga rams breed a good first cross lamb," Mr Murray said.
Vendor Peter Jackson was pleased with his second Walgett sale.
"This sale confirmed the fact of the good acceptance of our sheep in the area with a good showing of repeat buyers enforcing the suitability of our rams to this district,” Mr Jackson said.
The sale was conducted by Elders, Walgett and Clemson Hiscox and Co. with Andy McGeoch controlling the bids.
