The feature of the seventh annual multi-vendor Australian White ram and ewe sale at Narrandera when the top price paid at $3100 for both rams and ewes on offer, was the number of repeat buyers who went home satisfied with their purchases.
Martin and James Gilmore, “Tattykeel”, and Robert Gilmore, “Ardess” in the Oberon district combined with Josh Clinton, “Camden Valley”, The Oaks to present 80 rams and 21 ewes for discerning purchasers with 60 rams sold for $1736 average and 20 ewes sold for $1640.
Top price was paid for each of the three rams in the first pen offered by the Gilmore family, Tattykeel stud, Oberon and purchased by repeat buyer Doug Manwaring, “Welton”, Condobolin.
“They are the best sheep for our country combining shedding with a great carcase,” he said.
“We now have F3 lambs on the ground and gradually upgrading using Dohne and Dorper ewe base.”
The Tattykeel stud also received top price for one of their ewes, sold to a client of Landmark, Narrandera.
Volume and repeat buyers of rams included Alan Walsh from Mayrung, who paid $1711 average price for his draft of nine rams,and Russel Jones, “Needlewood”, Condobolin, who paid to $2600 for his pick of ten rams which averaged $1890.
Volume buyers of the stud ewes included John Robinson, Kaniva, Victoria, who purchased five ewes for average $1200, while Landmark, Narrandera, bought seven ewes on behalf of a client, paying to $3100 top and average of $1957.
Sheep went into Victoria and Queensland as well as the Riverina.
Speaking after the sale, James Gilmore, from the Tattykeel stud, said there was a lot of depth in the sheep presented which resulted in a very good sale, as it continues to gather strength through the years.
“Most pleasing was the number of return buyers who are very happy with the product,” he said.
