A MEDICAL student from Wagga Wagga and a physiotherapy student from Walbundrie were chosen as the Zone 7 finalists to compete for the title of The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl at this year’s Sydney Royal Show.
Wagga Wagga Showgirl Emma Gorman, 23, is in her sixth year of a medical degree at the University of NSW and hopes to one day return to the bush and serve her community as a doctor.
“Having lived in rural areas throughout my life I have witnessed the inequities in healthcare access first-hand,” Emma said.
“Upon completing my medical degree I hope to remain in the country and provide quality healthcare and specialist services as a doctor.”
Walbundrie Showgirl Olivia McIntosh, 22, is studying a degree in physiotherapy at Charles Sturt University and aims to also provide quality rehabilitation services in regional areas.
Olivia said she entered the Showgirl competition to become more involved in her local community and to meet more like-minded rural women.
The Zone 7 final was hosted by Hillston Show Society and the judges of the competition were Agricultural Societies Council president David Peters, The Land’s Karen Bailey and 2012 second runner-up The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl Sally Ormiston.
