Incorporating and benefiting from hybrid vigour with the use of Black Simmentals was the talk amongst supporters of the second annual Brewer Beef Black Simmental bull sale held on property at Tallangatta last Friday.
The Brewer family sold 32 bulls for a complete clearance and $5100 average with a top-price of $11,000 paid for Brewer Beef Galaxy L008.
Also on offer were commercial females and they too recorded a complete clearance with joined heifers reaching $2050 while unjoined heifers recorded $1400.
Return clients Stewart and Peter Macoun, “Boongala”, Peak Hill, parted with the top money of $11,000 for a St Pauls Galaxy G439 son who was marked up by many a good judge.
Galaxy L008 weighed a whooping 1068 kilograms at 20 months and had Simmental breedplan figures in the top five per cent for 200-day weight and top 10pc for 400-day weight, mature cow weight, and rib fat.
The Macoun’s have had a great deal of success with Brewer Beef genetics in the self-replacing herd over recent years marketing progeny as weaners through NVLX.
Stewart Macoun was delighted to get his hands on what he considered the best bull on offer and was determined to buy top quality bulls to add to his herd.
“We first used Simmentals in 1984 and believe the Black Simmentals are ideal for our program due to their incredible growth, milk and do ability,” Mr Macoun said.
Selecting bulls with excellent temperament, a sires head, length and depth of body, and width throughout Mr Macoun added a St Pauls Star Glazer G421 to his selections for $6250.
C Lewin, “Oakwood”, Tumbalong, purchased the second highest price bull Brewer Beef Galaxy L005 for $9500. The B+ muscle score bull with top 10pc of Simmental breed for eye muscle area (EMA) was again sired by St Pauls Galaxy G439 who’s sons certainly were the pick sire line.
The volume purchasers were lead by Alan Brewer, Koetong, Victoria, a long time supporter of Simmental genetics with six bulls purchased for a $4083 average.
J.H. and C.M. White, Dingee, Vic, averaged $5500 for their selection of two bulls paying to $6000, while J, V and G Yensch, “Yarrara”, Holbrook, also topped at $6000 and averaged $4500 for their two.
Daysdale producers R.G. McCall and Sons also secured two bulls to average $3750, while R.W. Bacon, Echuca, Vic, and I and J Towell, “Coolong”, Mullengandra averaged $3500 and $3250 respectively both for two bulls.
The helmsman sale was conducted by Glassers Total Sales Management, Elite Livestock Auctions and Corcoran Parker.
