TWO illegal hunting cases – one involving a man who tried to run from Game Licensing Unit officers - have ended with a bow being confiscated, a fine and hunting ban handed down, and a good behaviour bond put in place for a firearms breach.
One of the offenders faced Wollongong Local Court this month - a 31-year-old man from Liverpool – where his $2000 hunting bow and equipment was forfeited to the Crown on charges of obstructing, hindering and impeding a game licence inspector in July last year.
The man fled from the inspector when he was found to be in possession of hunting equipment, including the bow, in an area where he didn’t have permission to hunt.
He was fined $1000 and disqualified from being granted a game hunting licence for six months.
The bow and equipment, valued at approximately $2000 and seized at the time of his arrest, was forfeited to the Crown.
In a separate incident, a 49-year-old Cooma woman faced Cooma Local Court this month after she was found with firearms in a State forest near Jindabyne in March 2016.
She was charged by Police with a number of firearms offences and was convicted on the charge of not keeping a firearm safe. For this she was placed on a seven-month good behaviour bond.
On the charge of possessing a firearm in a State forest, the woman was found guilty and placed on a nine-month good behaviour bond.
