Strongly supported by the local community, the 128th annual Boorowa Show attracted strong entries in all of the traditional events associated with country shows.
From his high place in the Grandstand, well known raconteur and local identity, Jack Ryan kept the microphone warm, letting all and sundry know of the various events being staged around the showground.
Show secretary, Narelle Nixon reported increased crowd numbers drawn by the wide variety of events to be enjoyed by all ages.
“Gate takings were up on last,” Ms Nixon said.
A feature for many onlookers was the Outback Stockman display, performed by Lachie Crosser and his team of talented horse, bullock and dogs.
“He is currently Outback Stockman at Longreach’s Stockman’s Hall of Fame, and he travels with his show at this time of the year,” Ms Nixon said.
“He delighted the town with a ride near the local supermarket and pubs on Friday evening on his bull named Jigsaw.”
Ms Nixon said the ride which attracted an enormous amount of attention nearly caused a traffic jam at the roundabout as rarely is seen a one tonne bull ridden down the main street of Boorowa.
A very interesting and informative reptile show was provided by Neville Burns, Blue Mountains Reptile Awarness.
The poultry section is growing each year, due to the infectious enthusiasm of chief steward Margaret Gillespie, and Ms Nixon said the Alpaca entries filled the available space.
It was unfortunate the summer heat reduced entries in vegetable and fruit section, otherwise entries in the ring, cattle and sheep sheds were on par with previous shows.
In the Merino section, the Merryville stud, Boorowa was most successful exhibitor.
Associated with the Boorowa Show is the annual Boorowa Commercial Cattle Competition with ten participants presenting their Hereford, Angus, Red Angus and Shorthorn herds.
The judges were Marc Greening, Injemira Herefords, Ladysmith and Andrew Harbourne, Greenleaf Angus, Crookwell.
Commercial cattle chief steward, Angus Coles said judging was based on commercial attributes.
“They assessed how well the cattle were meeting target markets with the aim and objectives of the herds,” Mr Coles said.
