SUPERIOR Charolais genetics were in hot demand with the Palgrove Showcase Female Sale topping at $18,500.
Representing 40 years of Palgrove breeding and the famed stud’s first female sale in five years, the showcase event at Dalveen, Queensland, attracted a crowd from five Australian states and New Zealand.
The 54 lots offered, including semen and embryos, averaged $8022 to gross $433,200. In the sale breakdown, 19 cows and calves topped $18,500 to average $9394, 14 select show prospect heifers sold to $12,500 to average $7607 and 17 PTIC heifers topped $9000 to average $6147.
The $18,500 sale topper was a six-year-old matron Palgrove Estella 336. The red factor cow had an August-born heifer calf by Palgrove Foresight at foot, and was scanned back in calf to Palgrove Kudos. She went to David and Judy Gray, Huon Charolais, Jindera via Albury, who run a 140-head stud herd. The Grays also paid the equal $9000 top for the similarly named PTIC heifer Palgrove Estella in their draft of four.
Second highest in the 21 cow and calf line up was Palgrove Elegance by Xodus, who was PTIC and had a heifer calf at foot, both to top NZ-based sire Silverstream Holster. Elegance went to Sapphire and Deborah Halliday, Waterford Charolais, Mount Macedon, Victoria.
Calmview Charolais, Fernleigh, scored a four-in-one package paying $12,000 for Palgrove Estella, the first Evolution daughter offered by the Bondfields. The three-year-old is on her second calf, a polled heifer by Palgrove Jericho, and scanned PTIC with twins. Evolution daughter Palgrove Bronwyn sold for $10,500 to Ben Toll, Tolldale Charolais, Dubbo.
In the show prospect heifers, Scott Taylor, Linton Station, Barraba paid $12,500 for the Evolution bred poll Palgrove Panache.
Seventeen PTIC heifers were offered, with the Hartwig family, Glandore, Monto, QLD, paying $9000 for the poll red factor PTIC heifer Palgrove Festoon.
Four semen packages sold to $6500. The packages from NZ-based Silverstream Holster and Canadian sire Winn Mans Skaggs headed to the Binny family at Glenlea Charolais, Guyra.
