EIGHT million dollars worth of equipment has been sold to clear out the former site of Anglo-Americans’ Drayton coal mine near Singleton.
A massive auction held across Wednesday and Thursday sold 95 per cent of the mine’s assets.
The local farm-sector purchased a range of workshop equipment, including steel work benches, power tools and hand tools as well as light commercial vehicles and ancillary gear.
Auction house Hassalls oversaw the sale. Key accounts director Steven Wainhouse said bulldozers (Caterpillar D11R) and graders (Caterpillar 16H) sold very strongly, so too did components for Caterpillar and Hitachi mining equipment.
The open-cut coal mine officially closed its gates in October leaving 200 employees in the lurch. The mine closed after the NSW Planning and Assessment Commission rejected its plans to expand owing to the expected impact of the mine on the neighbouring international thoroughbred studs Darley and Coolmore.
