BIG lines of good quality weaners will be on offer at the two Ray White Rural Armidale and Guyra sales on March 31 and May 5.
The March 31 sale, the annual feature female, weaner and breeder store sale, is set to yard at least 2500 head of cattle from the Armidale and Guyra areas.
Weaner and yearling cattle from regular vendors James Harris, Abington Station, Uralla, and David, Louise and Mark Carolan, Nalorac Pastoral, "Lyndhurst", Armidale, will make up about half of the offering.
Mr Harris will offer 600 European Union-accredited 18- to 19-month-old heifers that have been pregnancy tested empty.
The line includes 400 pure Angus future breeders and 200 Angus/European-cross heifers.
The Carolan family's offering includes 650 EU-accredited yard weaned Angus steers from seven to nine months of age.
"There's really good local interest from repeat clients, with successful purchasers now ringing us making sure the calves will be in the sales which gives us an assurance that the calves are meeting their targets,” Ray White agent Blake O’Reilly said.
“James Harris was was of the founders of the sale, and we have repeat buyers coming from southern NSW to purchase those heifers for their strong growth, whether they’re going back into a commercial breeding operation, or going to be finished on grass or grain.
“His heifers are ideal for a long-fed grain operation.”
The agency's second sale on May 5 will feature 3000 Angus and Angus-sired New England-bred weaners.
The Carolans are again one of the biggest vendors, planning to sell 500 EU-accredited eight- to 11-month-old yard weaned Angus steers.
George Rose, Longford Angus, "Longford", Armidale, will offer 250 EU-accredited nine- to 11-month-old weaners.
Peter and Karen Reid, "Elswick", Walcha, will have a line of 300 eight- to nine-month-old Angus and Angus-cross mixed-sex weaners in the sale.
“This sale is an outstanding representation of the Angus breed from renowned local producers in the New England,” Mr O’Reilly said.
There was strong demand for EU-accredited cattle at last year’s sale, with steers achieving a top price of 362c/kg and the top heifers, also EU-accredited, reaching 314c/kg.
All weaners will be sold cents per kilogram, with calves weighed prior to the sale.
“Weights will be displayed on sale day so buyers know exactly what they're paying,” Mr O’Reilly said.
