FIRST cross ewes topped at $180 and Merinos to $176 in a yarding of 6500 head at Narromine store sheep sale on Wednesday last week.
Just on 1000 first-cross ewes were among the offering to a firm market with buyers of both these, store lambs, Merino ewes and wethers, selling to areas from Ariah Park to Guyra and regions in between.
Narromine Stock Agents Association chairman Ashley McGilchrist, Landmark Wilson Russ, said the sale was firm on last month even with the smaller number of ewes on offer.
“They still sold to a wide area of the state,” he said.
Top pen of crossbred ewes was kept within the family when Ross Ferrari, “Galteemore”, Trangie, sold his 150 March 2016 drop and February shorn draft for the $180 top.
He was unaware his brother, Steve Ferrari, “Murrumbah”, Trangie, had his eyes on them saying they were the best bred pen of the sale.
Making room at “Cassilis Park”, Cassilis, after the Sir Ivan fires, the Armstrong family sold their 182 July/August 2015 drop May shorn ewes for $176 top Merino money to a Mudgee district restocker.
Little Topar (Broken Hill) region breeders Wall and Niendorf, Langidoon Station, sold all 770 of their annual drafts of Merino and Prime SAMM-cross ewes to average $112 and topping at $117 for June/July 2010 drop ewes scanned in lamb to SAMM and Merino sires.
John and Heather Seale, "Korrawong”, Gilgandra, gained $166 for 197 Merino ewes Dunbogan blood, August 2015 drop and $64 a head for August 2016 drop wethers, February shorn.
