THERE was solid bidding at the second annual Stanford Poll Hereford Helmsman sale at Bathurst on Friday for the top-priced bull, August 2015-drop, Stanford Larry L185(P), sired by Stanford Federal F135(P). He fetched $6750 with return buyers Matthew and Hayley Pattison on behalf of B. James Pastoral Co., Deniliquin, grabbing the high bid after a hard fought process throughout the auction.
“This bull had a terrific birth weight, good growth and carcass. He will get us some good heifer calves.” Mrs Pattison said.
He will be joined in August to about 500 heifers for their commercial enterprise.
As volume buyers, their draft of four, two cow bulls and two heifer bulls “had terrific carcass, dark coats and sound structure”.
Three pens of 10 PTIC commercial heifers were offered and two sold for a top of $1725 per head. First time purchaser, Agent Justin Guy, Bowyer and Livermore Stock Agents at Bathurst on behalf of a local client. He has been trying to get PTIC Poll Herefords for a few months.
“They are hard to come by locally.” Mr Guy said.
“I know the breeding, they come from a great cow herd. I’m sure they will grow out to do a fantastic job.”
“The purchaser has some Hereford cross and is looking for straight Poll Hereford as a good asset to compliment his 150 head commercial setup.”
Studmasters Michael and Cheryl Rutherford, were quite happy with the results.
“We reached a new top price but didn't sell as many this year however the prices were better.”
