Agricultural shows on the Mid North Coast last weekend were cancelled and upcoming events postponed as a result of saturated grounds.
But Gloucester show will go ahead beginning Friday and running through Saturday with a larger prime cattle section along with dairy and stud cattle.
President Alison Kernahan said her committee was confident the grounds were firm enough to carry on, even with predicted Thursday showers, but noted the recent Wallamba show at Nabiac was called off before the ring events were completed as the heavens opened.
More than 200mm of rain fell on the coast over that following week and last weekend Wingham show committee made the decision to cancelled all events bar the kennel dog show which was transferred to Taree.
Dorrigo campdraft scheduled for this weekend was cancelled thanks to half a metre of rain which fell on the showgrounds with more predicted before Saturday. The event will now run in September.
Kempsey show committee already made the decision to postpone their event, which would have been held on April 25-26 with wet conditions having much to do with the decision, according to president Damian Treloar
“The rain made a big difference,” Mr Treloar said. “If we hadn’t got that it’d be a different story.” With show jumping, dressage events, the grand parade, the demolition derby and more scheduled to take place in the show ring, the risk of injury was too great, he said.
