WESTVALE and New Plains Merinos were two studs that took Sydney Royal ultrafine judge Trevor Mibus eye this year, taking out a grand championship each.
Leo and Judy Blanch from Westvale Merino stud, Wollun, took out grand champion ram in the ultrafine wool section for their ram, Westvale St William.
The ram won champion ultrafine wool march shorn Merino ram and went on to beat the August shorn champion, exhibited by Grathlyn Merino stud, Mudgee, for the grand championship.
The ram, which had never been shown before the Sydney Royal Show had a micron of 18.1, a standard deviation (SD) of 2.5, a co-efficient of variation (CV) of 13.8 and a comfort factor (CF) of 99.8 per cent.
The grand champion ram was by Westvale Billy, which won the August shorn grand champion ram in the New England district in 2012.
St William was out of a ewe which was by a Westvale bred ram that won the superfine champion ram at the Sydney Royal Show in 2005.
The judge said the ram was robust, with good structure and beautiful, white, long wool.
The grand champion ewe of the ultrafine section was awarded to New Plains Merino stud, Guyong.
The New Plains ewe was awarded champion march shorn ultrafine ewe and went on to win the overall championship in the ultrafine section.
The ewe was up against the August shorn champion ewe, which was exhibited by Bocoble Merino stud, Cooks Gap.
Mr Milbus said the four-tooth ewe would have no doubt had the softest wool in the Sydney Royal shed, with even, balanced wool cover that was the same on the bottom as the top.
The Hoadley familys ewe had a micron of 14.9, an SD of 2.1, a CV of 14.1 and a CF of 99.8 pc.
Sydney Royal wasnt the ewes first successful show venture, after she took out reserve champion March shorn superfine ewe at the Canberra Royal Show earlier in the year.
She was out of one of the New Plain studs special ewes.
Grathlyn stud had an overall win in the sheep shed this year, taking out junior champion ewe for their August 2015-drop female.
The ram the ewe was by has been used as a stud sire in the Grathlyn flock.
The ewe she was out of has won grand champion ultrafine ewe in Bendigo and the August shorn champion ewe at Sydney Royal Show in 2013. The junior champion ram had a micron of 15.8, a SD of 2.4, a CV of 15.2 and a CF 99.9 pc.
