In only it's second year of returning to the Sydney Royal meat and dual purpose sheep mats after a 17-year hiatus, the Wiltshire Horn grand champion ram was won by the same sire who took the title last year, this year as a four-tooth exhibit.
Dynamite 08, from OLoghlin stud, Deniliquin, owned by Jason OLoghlin, made his presence known when he won the Wiltshire Horn ram horn class over one-year-old. OLoghlin stud also won the reserve grand champion Wiltshire Horn ram with their younger sire that earlier won the largest class in the breed - ram under one year of age showing milk teeth only.
It was a strong performance for OLoghlin, winning the objective measurement class, pair of ewes, breeders group as well as the reserve grand champion Wiltshire Horn ewe ribbon.
The coveted Peter Taylor group of one ram and two ewes showing milk teeth only was also taken out by the Deniliquin stud.
Judge Gavin Wall, Melbourne, said the champion ram held his ground and praised him for his sirey outlook.
He has a good strong head and shoulders and is a good example of the breed, Mr Wall said.
The grand champion Wiltshire Horn ewe was exhibited by Highshire stud, Coomoora, Victoria.
The July/August 2015-drop ewe first won her class ewe over one year of age showing a minimum of two permanent teeth.
The most successful Wiltshire Horn exhibitor went to OLoghlin stud, Deniliquin.
