Peak Hill stud, Towalba, have shown their versatility between medium and strong wools, taking out the grand champion medium wool ram title.
Judge Tim Dalla, Collinsville stud, SA, applauded the ram for his great outlook and heavy cutting fleece. He is a big upstanding ram that is structurally correct, Mr Dalla said.
By a ram from the Towalba Orange family and out of the same family ewe, the April 2015-drop ram escalated to the grand position after initially winning his four-tooth March shorn Medium wool ram class.
Reserve grand champion went to Darriwell stud, Trundle, with their champion medium wool August shorn ram. Mr Dalla said the ram possessed terrific, gutsy wool.
Chris Clonan, Alfoxton stud, Armidale, won the grand champion medium wool ewe title with their champion August shorn ewe. Alfoxton 15-414, by Charinga 13-240, is a full sister to the reserve grand champion fine medium wool ram. She was named reserve junior champion ewe behind Grathlyns junior champion ewe.
Mr Dalla said the ewe had terrific productivity, with heavy cutting, rich, well-aligned crimpy wool. It was the August 2015-drop ewes first show with her next being the QLD State Sheep Show, Australian Sheep and Wool Show, Bendigo as well as the Merino National in Dubbo.
Reserve grand champ medium wool ewe was exhibited by Demondrille stud, Harden, with their champion March shorn medium wool four-tooth ewe.
