Paul and Janette Ormsby, Mugambi stud, Forbes, are supremely pleased their doe won grand champion standard Boer doe at Sydney Royal Show.
The doe, Overline, is now just over three years old and was supreme champion last year at the show.
“It’s a good thing if an animal can double up,” Mrs Ormsby said.
The couple said they were “very pleased and very tired”.
“If she can beat the other does she should be able to beat the bucks tomorrow,” Mr Ormsby said.
“She’s got kid does in the show this year although they’ve only gone okay but she has a buck in tomorrow too.”
Overline beat Micathel Veronika, a doe aged 18 to 24 months, owned by Marie Barnes, Cargo, whose does won a string of ribbons.
A kid aged four to 12 months, Clearday Park Magic, owned by Ron and Chris Andrews, Cargo, was also in the running for grand champion doe.
Judge Hein Booysen, from South Africa, said the winning doe showed “too much capacity, exceptional much meat quality, good balance, good femininity and overall is a huge doe”.
He said she had “long form”. Her “overall width and length” were among her winning features.
The Boer bucks are judged Tuesday.
