AN Alaskan Malamute from Adelaide has been named best in show at the Sydney Royal.
Six-year-old male, Supreme Champion Hamalek Rumble in the Jungle – or Lennox for short - was exhibited by Hayley French-Davis.
For the best in show he was pitted against six other premier quality dogs, earlier named best in the categories of Hound, Terrier, Gun Dog, Toy Dog, Working Dog and Non-Sporting.
Lennox represented the Utility breeds.
An elated Ms French-Davis said Lennox was a special dog and an outstanding example of the Alaskan Malamute breed.
“He is cheeky and naughty - he woos and carries on in the ring with an ‘all about me’ attitude - and that is a quintessential Malamute.”
Lennox’s previous successes have included second at Royal Adelaide Show and third at Royal Melbourne Show, however the Sydney title is his greatest achievement to date.
“You come where the competition is,” Ms French-Davis said.
“You’ve got to enjoy it - If you enjoy it, the dogs enjoy it and the bigger the competition, the better the win”, Ms French-Davis said.
Runner up was awarded to Smooth Fox Terrier Clayco High Mountain Rattlin’ Bones – Bones for short – exhibited by Simon Mills from Canberra.
Overseeing the competition was Canadian judge Lee Steeves, a terrier breeder from Nova Scotia.
Mrs Steeves’ Regalridge Kennel has produced generations of National Specialty winners throughout North America and she has judged at all breed and Specialty shows across North America and Scandinavia.
More than 3670 dogs representing 170 breeds were exhibited at the Sydney Royal this year.
