The Charleville Show will host the 2017 QLD State Sheep Show, to be held over May 19 and 20.
On Friday May 19, the classifications will get underway in the morning, and the judging of classes will start in the afternoon.
On Saturday, May 20, the judging of champions, supreme and the Queensland pair will take place, followed by the presentation of trophies.
According to secretary of the Queensland Merino Stud Sheepbreeders Association, Candice Roberts, competition is expected to be strong with 11 Queensland Studs nominating 120 sheep.
“We have also had interest from interstate studs about competing and also bringing sheep displays,” Ms Roberts said.
Taking on the role of judge this year will be Steven Bolt, Claypans Stud, Western Australia and Tom Davidson, Moorundie Park, South Australia.
On the Friday evening QMSSA will host a formal dinner, held at the Charleville RSL.
“We are hoping to present the Landmark Queensland Young Merino Award at the dinner,” Ms Roberts said.
The Landmark Queensland Young Merino Award is to recognise the best and most passionate and committed people in the Merino industry, and nominations close on May 1.
The winner will receive a five day education experience at the 2018 Sydney Royal Sheep Show, spend a day with a wool exporter at the Yennora Wool Store, and explore the behind the scenes of a wool sale.
