PREDICTED precipitation on following days enhanced buyer enthusiasm resulting in higher prices for the quality offering of first cross and Merino ewe lines at Narromine store sheep sale last Wednesday.
The smaller yarding of 5800 head added in vendors’ favour with first cross ewes topping at $258 and Merinos to $181.
Landmark Wilson Russ agent, Ashley McGilchrist, Narromine, said an enthusiastic crowd of buyers were keen to secure one of the best quality yardings this year.
“There seemed to be an urgency among buyers keen to secure breeding lines before the predicted big rains within the following several days,” he said.
Hartin Schute Bell Narromine co-principal, Jason Hartin agreed, saying it was a”magnificent sale”.
“Prices held on very well and were competitive with similar sales, both private and on computer,” he said.
Buyers came from Bathurst, Young, Forbes, Condobolin, Yenda and local.
Regular vendor of either store lambs or first cross ewes, the Smith family’s Eumalga Partnership, Warren, topped the sale with a line of 150 first cross ewes July/August, 2015 drop, January shorn and scanned in lamb to Poll Dorset rams with 77 being twinners, purchased by Forbes Livestock for the Umbers family, Bogan Gate.
Restockers were keen on the Merino drafts with 75 commercial ewes from the 2015 drop of the Lindsay family, “Cora Lynn”, Peak Hill, April shorn and scanned in lamb to Poll Dorset rams to commence lambing end of May topping the section at $181 to Griffith agent Jack Pippin, Spencer and Bennett, for a Murrami restocker, while another draft of 107 mixed-age, April shorn also joined to Poll Dorset rams, made $164.
David and Tamara Brown, D&T Pastoral, “Meriti”, Tottenham, sold 243 first cross ewes, August/September ‘16 drop, January shorn at $202 a head to Forbes district and later 549 Merino ewes 4½ to 6½ years, March shorn and scanned in lamb to Border Leicester rams at $155 to Warren.
MAKAG, “Sunset”, Yeoval, sold 301 first cross ewes. October’16 drop, March shorn, for $170 a head to the Bathurst district, while Wangrawally Partnership, Carinda, gained up to $163 a head for 860 September/October ‘16 drop first cross ewes, March shorn, averaging $160.
Raeburn Pastoral, Narromine, sold 495 Merino ewes, 6½ years of Roseville Park blood, January shorn and scanned to Border Leicester rams for $158 each.
Tarrina Trust, Tambo, Queensland, sold 440 Dohne ewes of Roseville Park blood, 6½ years, January shorn, unjoined and mulesed, at $152 to a Condobolin restocker.
