Many years of working with eucalyptus oil has given Yesteryear Plantation’s Andrea Sturgess a pretty good understanding of what the good oil is.
According to Mrs Sturgess, an abundance of overseas businesses that import eucalyptus oil have clouded the waters on what is top quality oil.
“There are several different types of eucalyptus oil,” Mrs Sturgess said.
“We grow and distil pure Radiata eucalyptus oil, which is the second highest grade, only behind Blue Mallee, in regards to quality.
“Blue Mallee, Radiata and Dives oil is classed as pharmaceutical grade.
“Importers are usually bringing in globulus, which is a lower grade and is classed as industrial grade.
“The best way to tell if you are buying good eucalyptus oil is to smell it.
“Cheap imports burn when you smell it while good quality oil is mild.
“If the label on the bottle does not say the type of eucalyptus oil, you can nearly bet it is blended with a cheap import,” she said.
