The musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels proved another hit for the vibrant performing arts program at St Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill, Sydney, playing to packed audiences over four nights at the Concourse Theatre.
The show’s success follows other spectacular productions including Hairspray – the Broadway Musical, SHOUT! The Legend of the Wild One, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
St Joseph’s has developed a strong reputation for entertaining audiences with musical productions that are of the highest quality. Again, this year’s production brought together an outstanding cast and crew, talented and accomplished musicians, detailed sets and costumes and a dedicated and hard working support team.
Joey’s Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was the result of many months of preparation, with rehearsals for the production commencing in August 2016 and continuing until opening night on May 9.
Headmaster Ross Tarlinton said the musical was one of the range of opportunities offered to challenge and develop the students.
“One of the wonderful aspects of St Joseph’s College is the depth and range of experiences we can offer our boys,” he said.
“However, simply offering those experiences is not enough – the boys themselves must embrace these opportunities, challenging themselves to try new things and pushing beyond their comfort zone within the college’s supportive and encouraging environment.
“I believe this is something we do extraordinarily well at Joeys, encompassing academics, sport, co-curricular, service and faith. We strive to help each boy become the very best he can be.”
The comprehensive performing arts program at St Joseph’s is part of the college’s commitment to providing boys with a well-rounded, balanced education. It provides boys with a creative outlet, facilitating self-discovery and self-expression and nurturing performers of all abilities.
