An exciting outcome of student leadership at Frensham is positive change driven by shared ongoing staff-student review of every element of school life, according to head Julie Gillick.
Late last year, decisions were made about how to make the school menu plan more closely resemble the rotation of favourite meals at home.
The student heads of dining room sign off with senior staff and its catering manager on each term’s menu planner. But the latest decisions have provided certainty about the style of dinner to expect on days of the week – and girls are also enjoying the variations introduced.
The menu is ever-evolving with nutrition at the core of every decision. Later this year works will start for its expanded dining room, and student interest in architectural design and layout is high.
“Given the hours spent ‘around the kitchen table’ at Frensham, we are keen to do all possible to enhance the experience for students,” Ms Gillick said. “Parents are seeing the benefits of boarding as a whole extra element of education focused on developing emotional and intellectual maturity, self-discipline and self-management, and inspiring a deep sense of personal connection that develops when teenagers engage in positive, challenging experience.”
