A FLURRY of bids flew for the grand champion of the Dectomax National Shorthorn Show and Sale today to sell for $32,000.
One hundred and sixteen bulls were offered at event today in Dubbo. One hundred and four sold at the fall of the hammer resulting in an 89 per cent clearance and an average of $8500.
The top priced roan bull, Bayview Usher L83 (P), was sold by South Australians Chris and Anissa Thompson, Yorketown, to B and D. Eather, Doolibah stud, Bunnan, and Dubbo-based Terra Pastoral.
The bull, just under two-years-old, was the junior and grand champion at last year’s Adelaide show.
The second highest price bull, Moombi Kookaburra, bred by Lester Job, Cumnock, sold for $26000.
The third highest price bull, Royalla Spotless L377, fetched $20,000. The white bull was bred by Royalla Shorthorns and sold to Lincoln Job of Marellan Shorthorns, Emerald, Queensland, in partnership with Chris Hall of Warraberry Shorthorns, Parkes.
The volume buyer on the day was Meriwee Pastoral Company, Condobolin, who purchased 10 bulls.
Bulls were sold to breeders in all states excluding Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
Bids at last year’s event peaked at $42,000 and averaged $8125.
