The yarding of 1645 grown cattle at Wodonga would be best described as being of fair to average quality with the odd pen only of good quality.
Nevertheless, the market trend continues to be firm, and was quoted as “solid”, by Paull and Scollard agent Tim Robinson.
“It was pretty consistent on recent sales with a lot of steers in the 260-300kg range making good money,” he said.
The predominate breed was Angus, with a few pens of Herefords and European breeds making their presence felt.
Weaner steers sold from $1165 to $1470, with lighter weights selling up to $1100.
The limited pens of weaner heifers were in great demand and sold from $855 to $1090, with lighter weights topping at $770.
Unjoined heifers sold to $1220, PTIC cows sold to $2300 and PTIC cows with calves topped at $2500.
Ivan Peppe, Howlong, sold five Angus steers, weighing 420kg for $1470, while Noel Lietch, Ben Valley Angus, Yackandandah, received $1290 for his pen of 15 Angus steers, Table Top-blood weighing 333kg.
The Klemm family, “Eumana”, Londrigan, Victoria, sold 49 Angus steers, Rennylea/Glen Rubin-blood weighing 296kg for $1150, and Dean Luhrs, Gerogery sold nine black baldy steers weighing 260kg for $1000.
Bruce Pritchard, Tallangatta Valley, Vic, sold 22 Hereford steers, Rosstulla-blood weighing 277kg for $1100, and the Paton family, Corryong, Vic, sold 11 Freisian steers weighing 392kg for $1040.
Jarobee Angus, Beechworth, sold 15 Angus heifers, weighing 376kg for $1290, while Ivan Peppe, Howlong, received $1160 for his pen of 18 Angus heifers, Jarobee-blood weighing 326kg.
Lloyd Pendergast, Barnawartha, sold 11 18-month Angus heifers NSM, weighing 357kg for $1220, with Harkness and Rowe, Koetong, Vic, getting $1100 for thier 14 Angus heifers weighing 318kg.
The pen of 14 mixed age Angus cows with calves and PTIC to Gelvieh bulls, sold on account Mona Vale, Bungowannah, for $2500, while Old Cobran Pastoral, Wodonga, sold nine Angus cows with calves and NSM for $2375.
Justin Blair, Holbrook sold eight Angus cows with calves and rejoined to Fernhill Angus bull for $2180, with Glendureul Pastoral Co, “Jergyle”, Holbrook, receiving $1975 for five Angus cows with calves. Noel Leitch, Ben Valley Angus, sold five Angus heifers 414kg and depastured to Wyagu bulls for $1500.
There was strong interest from Gippsland, Western District and south-east SA, buyers competing with feedlots and local restockers.
Wodonga agents BUR, Paull and Scollard, Peter Ruaro Rodwells, and Schubert Boers held the sale.
