David and Eileen Sainsbury, Rosewood Poll Dorsets, Rye Park, have taken the champion ewe accolade at this year's NSW Dorset Championships, Cowra.
In what Mr Sainbury described as his best show ever, this was the Sainsbury’s first major broad ribbon at the annual championships.
The 2016 spring-drop ewe was sired by Rosewood 8-13 and out Rosewood 12-14.
The sire of Rosewood 12-14 was Abelene Park 176-12, purchased off Max Douglas in 2013 at the NSW Dorset Championships.
The 80 kilogram ewe first won her milk tooth ewe shorn, born after August 1.
Judge Keith Loosemore, Palana Poll Dorsets, Wariaida, praised the ewe for her terrific confirmation.
“She was a well balanced ewe, very attractive, with a good top line and walked well,” Mr Loosemore said.
Mr Sainsbury said the immediate future for the ewe involves going back into the Rosewood stud with plans to join her in November.
“She is a very stylish ewe, thick heavy boned type of ewe, well-muscled with a terrific presence about her,” Mr Sainsbury said.
The Sainbury’s took four ewes and two rams and in each class the stud came away with a ribbon.
Reserve champion ewe went to the Rowley family of Springwaters stud, Boorowa.
Sired by a Punchgrove ram, she first won her ewe under one and a half years with not more than two centimetres of wool class before eventually being sashed the reserve champion.
Mr Loosemore said she was also a nicely balanced ewe but didn’t have quite the bone on the champion exhibit.
Her show history included being the champion ewe lamb at the Australasian Dorset Championships, Bendigo, in 2016.
She has been joined to the supreme exhibit, Springwaters 66-16, and will lamb down in August.
Springwaters also won all four group classes including the sires progeny from the sire Springwaters 310-14 which was the sire of the supreme exhibit.
The Boorowa stud were aptly named the most successful exhibitor as well as best strike rate.
Mr Loosemore said the standard of sheep presented was high with the tops of the sheep very good and not much tail.
