QUALITY, especially weaner cattle, compensated for the smaller yarding of 700 head at Dubbo store cattle sale last Friday, when steers topped at $1110 and heifers at $965.
P.T. Lord, Dakin co-principal Paul Dakin, Dubbo, said the smaller yarding was predominantly made up of weaners.
“These were quality lines which actually sold to a dearer market,” he said.
Weaner steers sold from $420 to $1110 to average $833 or 355 cents a kilogram, while heifers from $340 to $965 averaging $678. Yearling steers sold from $690 to $1180 and heifers $735 to $800. Pregnancy-tested-in-calf (PTIC) cows ranged from $860 to $1200 and cows with calves to $1575.
Peter Pether, “Omeo”, Goolma, topped with 14 Angus steers 10 to 12 months at $1180 along with Woodbine Family Trust, “Woodbine”, Barradine, who sold 24 Angus weaner steers eight to 10 months to $1110 and their sisters made to $950.
Pulver Family, “Hereford Park”, Nyngan, sold Santa Gertrudis/Angus first calf cows with bobby calves at foot to $1575. The Martin family, “Tallini”, Coolah, sold 17 Limousin-cross heifers, 11 months, to $965.
