A SMALL but keen crowd of buyers paid up to $210 for first-cross ewes and $96 for Merino ewes in a 5000 head yarding at Narromine store sheep sale on Wednesday last week.
The yarding was an even split according to Hartin Schute Bell agent Jason Hartin, Narromine, who said the quality was present, but the continuing dry weather and an easing on the lamb market held back bidding.
“While the market was tighter the result for vendors and buyers was very good,” Mr Hartin said.
Buyers were mostly local with Condobolin and Forbes restockers in the mix.
Jamie O’Brien, “Wattle Creek”, Coonamble, gained top price of $210 for 260 first-cross ewes May to July 2016 drop, December shorn, when bought by Glenn Turner, “Rosebank”, Temora, who will join them to Poll Dorset rams in October. Mr Turner frequents Narromine store sales as he likes the bigger framed western ewes.
The top Merino pen at $196 came from Medowood Partnership, “Woodlands”, Tottenham, and were 288 Egelabra blood 2011 drop, scanned in lamb to White Suffolk rams to lamb mid-July. They were bought by Hugh and Cheryl McMahon, “Rangi”, Tullamore.
D. and T. Pastoral, “Meriti”, Tottenham, sold 284 August 2016 drop first-cross ewes, June shorn for $178.
The Williams family, “Koorawatha”, Dubbo, gained $172 each for 84 first-cross ewes June/July 2015 drop, June shorn.
The Clark family, Kyoma Partnership, Tomingley, sold 184 Dohne ewes 2½ years, February shorn and scanned to White Suffolk rams to lamb August, for $184.
