When the sixth Lotto ball with the number 32 on it came down on Wednesday evening one lucky Cowra Lotto player became an instant millionaire.
The unsuspecting Cowra resident received a shock on Thursday morning when a NSW Lotteries official called to tell them they were Australia’s newest millionaire.
Margot and Bob Vidulich of Cowra Newsagency sold the winning ticket to the winner who wishes to remain anonymous.
Wednesday night’s winner is the second major Lotto winner in the Central West this month with an Orange grandfather winning 1.4 million last weekend and Oberon woman Judy Lowe picking up $308,000 on Keno.
“Oh my goodness! Really?” the winner asked in disbelief when told of the win by a Lotto official.
“That is absolutely marvellous! Thank you!”
A regular player, the winner was thrilled that a change to their previous ‘special’ numbers had scored such a life-changing windfall.
“I had special numbers, but they didn’t do any good – the winning numbers were always one off.
“So, I changed my numbers to one number off what my usual numbers were. It turned out to be a very good move!
“I can hardly believe it!"
Cowra’s new millionaire plans to share the win with their family.
Cowra Newsagency owner Margo Vidulich was thrilled to learn of her customer’s million-dollar win.
“It’s wonderful to know we sold a winning ticket, but it’s even better knowing the prize has gone to a local,” she said.
“We have a lot of travellers, and they’ve won most of the division one prizes in the past. So, it’s nice that it’s someone local. We need that in the town.
“We’ve been here for 32 years. After all this time, it’s good to know we can still sell a winning ticket.”
“I said to a customer just yesterday, ‘maybe we’re in for a win in the area – it happens in threes!’.
“We’ve landed the second. So, I’m interested to see where the next one will be.”
