Australia may have the Big Pineapple, Prawn and so on, but Gilgandra farmers lay claim to two Big Friesian bullocks.

While cats, dogs, birds and the like are easily considered pets, it’s very uncommon that two six foot tall Friesian bullocks would be given the same title, but that is just how Noel and Lorraine Farragher, Gilgandra, think of Bully and Mate.

The friendly five-year-old bullocks reside on their owners property. People travelling along the Newell Highway stop to marvel at their height, Ms Farragher said.

She said they were purchased as potty calves by their late son, Ian.

Bully and Mate are so well loved by Lorraine, Noel and their granddaughter, who is Ian’s daughter, that there was no way they could ever get rid of them.

They know when Noel is home to get their daily head pats, or when Lorraine is about to feed them, as they walk up to the fence and patiently wait. Their diet consists of bread and hay. They go through a bale of hay about every three to four weeks.
