Santa Gertrudis Australia and The Land along with Santa Gertrudis breeders are giving readers the chance to win a 50 percent share in the proceeds of a pen of steers.
The remaining 50 per cent will once again be donated to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
The pen of six steers, currently being fed at the Wilga Feedlot, Bellata, by the McCue family, will be offered for sale at the Gunnedah Livestock Exchange during AgQuip on 27 August.
Michael McCue said his family donate their time and the feed for the pen of steers, and are proud to support the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
“It is a wonderful organisation, and you never know when you might need it’s services,” Mr McCue said.
“The steers are being fed for 105 days to meet grain-fed export requirements.”
Santa Gertrudis Australia general manager, Ben Noller, said “The Win a Pen of Steers” competition presents a wonderful chance for Santa Gertrudis members to give back to a well recognised organisation that supports local rural communities.
“Rural areas rely on organisations like the Westpac helicopter to respond to numerous incidents on rural properties,” he said.
“Many Santa Gertrudis members have seen the great work the Westpac helicopter does and are committed to supporting the organisation to ensure their goal that no one will ever have to pay for the service is reached.”
Mr Noller said this is only the second year the competition has been organised through the Westpac Helicopter.
“Previously it had supported the Royal Flying Doctor, but some of the participants thought the Westpac helicopter is more relevant to the Southern Region,” he said.
“We still continue to donate to the Royal Flying Doctor through the Queensland Country Life “Win a Pen of Steers Competition”.”
Michael Wilson, Community Liaison Office for Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service welcomed the continuing support from rural communities as the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has recently commenced a 10 year contract in partnership with the NSW Ambulance to provide aeromedical care to those in need throughout Northern NSW.
“As part of this new integrated system our Service has commenced flying four new AW139 helicopters from our three bases in Tamworth, Newcastle and Lismore,” he said.
“The AW139’s are more capable aircraft, with greater speed, range and endurance than our previous fleet.”
Today the Service delivers world class aeromedical search, rescue and inter-hospital transfers to care for communities throughout Northern NSW and is approaching 1,500 missions per year, with a NSW Ambulance helicopter paramedic and a Hunter New England Health District doctor on board every primary flight, according to Mr Wilson.
“The generous support of the Santa Gertrudis Association combined with the ongoing support of the wider community is helping to ensure that our Service remains free of charge to our community 24 hours per day, seven days a week,” he said.
